Windstorm Studio...
As a young girl growing up in Flagstaff Arizona I was inspired by the dramatic landscape and abundance of wildlife. Most of my teen years were spent working with stone in my family’s jewelry business. But living so close to Northern Arizona University (NAU) with its excellent ceramics department I eventually gave up the ridged unyielding art of stone for the more malleable medium of clay. “And I have never looked back.”
After N.A.U I lived in Germany for seven years establishing ceramic programs, teaching art to Americans overseas and exhibiting my creations at a variety of artists’ venues. Upon returning stateside I continued teaching and exhibiting throughout the western United States, eventually settling in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Working as a studio potter for 25 years I specialized in creating functional ware. But over time the majority of my work has become sculptural. I create playful animals, bringing them to life with personalities and a charisma that flirts with the viewer. I’m also inspired to create more solicitous sculptures as evidenced in my endangered species series.
On a typical day at Windstorm Studio, I set down at the wheel to merge both art forms–functional as well as sculptural–generating an assortment of distinctive characters and one of a kind vessels which I then finish using a variety of firing and finishing techniques.
